What AI ad assistants can and cannot do safely

Assistants are good at reading numbers and drafting changes. The risk starts when a draft turns into a live change nobody reviewed.

What they do well

  • Read many accounts quickly and summarise what moved.
  • Draft a change with a reason: a budget shift, a new ad, a pause.
  • Explain a number and show how it was calculated, if the tool exposes the formula.

Where they need a person

  • Deciding whether a change fits the client's goal and budget.
  • Judging a creative against a brand the assistant has not met.
  • Anything that spends money or changes what a customer sees.

A safe default

  • Connect as read-only first, and widen access only for a reason.
  • Let the assistant propose. Let a named person approve.
  • Start new ads paused, cap budget changes per day and read each change back from the platform.

What to ask before you connect a tool

  • Can writing be turned off, and is it off by default?
  • Is there a preview of the exact change, and a log of who approved it?
The guide on AI assistants and ad accounts goes through the three levels of access in more detail.
