How to brief a UGC creative for an ecommerce ad

A good UGC brief gives the creator a clear job and a lot of freedom in how they do it.

The job of the video

  • One audience and one problem, in a sentence.
  • One promise the product can keep, and the proof that supports it.

The structure

  • Hook: the first two seconds. Give two or three options, such as a question, a result or a mistake.
  • Body: show the product in use and say what changed.
  • Offer and call to action: stated plainly, with the exact wording the client has approved.

Rules for the creator

  • Do say: only claims the client can support. Do not say: health, income or other claims the platform or the law restricts.
  • Format: ratio, length, captions on, safe zones kept clear of text.
  • Show real use, not a staged ad voice.

Admin

  • Give the video a creative ID and a name by the naming convention before it is shipped.
  • Get client approval on the final cut, and keep the version that was approved.
  • Note the usage rights and the period they cover.
After launch, track the video with the creative fatigue signals and review it with the creative test review.
