How to read back a change to an ad account

A success message from an API only says the request was accepted. A read-back says what the account looks like now.

Why accepted is not the same as correct

A platform can accept a request and apply it partly, round a value, queue it or apply a rule of its own. The only way to know the result is to read the object again.

What to compare

  • The field you changed: budget, status, bid, schedule or link.
  • The fields you did not change, to catch side effects.
  • The object identifier, so you know the right ad or ad set was changed.

What to do with a difference

  • Treat any difference as a failed change, not a note. Show it to the person who approved the request.
  • Do not retry blindly. Use an idempotency key so a retry cannot apply the same change twice.

What to log

  • The request, the approver, the time, the values read back and the verdict: matched or different.
  • Keep the raw response for a limited time and the summary for as long as the client relationship lasts.

When the read-back cannot run

If the platform is unavailable, mark the change as unverified and check again later. An unverified change should be visible in the report, not hidden.
